Grounds For Health is a non-profit organization that supports women’s health in coffee producing regions by bringing life-saving cancer screenings to often remote areas where access to care is difficult. Working with coffee cooperatives and local health care professionals, they establish prevention programs in hopes of curbing cervical cancer, which kills more women in developing regions than any other type of cancer.
To further their mission, Grounds For Health is putting on an auction that helps raise necessary funds. Taking place Thursday, September 18th, the 17th annual Grounds For Health Auction is bringing together generous donations of green coffee and equipment and services for industry folks to bid on. And all the proceeds go to Grounds For Health.
A total of 26 lots of green coffee will be up for grabs, thanks to generous donations from importers like Genuine Origin, Coffee Shrub, and Keffa, farms like Hacienda La Minita, El Injerto, and Hacienda La Esmeralda, and even roasters like Equator Coffees and Mr. Espresso, amongst others. Current lot prices range from $3.00 per pound for a Colombia Excelso all the way up to $85 per pound for a Panama Gesha.
Along with green coffees, roasters and cafes can bid on equipment like a BUNN coffee maker, a five-pound coffee bag filler, and a hopper extender. There is also a $750 credit up for grabs for an educational course with Atlas Coffee Importers as well as a complete physical and sensory coffee evaluation by Coffee Enterprises.
Bidding officially begins for the online auction on September 17th and concludes at 6:00pm ET on the following day. Per the website, 100% of this year’s proceeds will go to fund cervical cancer prevention programs in Ethiopia and Kenya. For those looking to help out but not necessary needing to purchase green coffee, donations can be made directly to Grounds For Health via their website.
