Lost in the thickets of ancient coffee blog lore you’ll find at least one incontrovertible fact: Sprudge Media Network was founded in the city of Seattle, Washington. And though now based elsewhere, we’ve always got a sweet and soft spot for coffee bars and coffee culture in the city that first blog-birthed us. Which is why we’re thrilled to check in on a new coffee shop in the Blue Ridge neighborhood—on the city’s northern edge, just past the beautiful beaches of Golden Gardens Park. This is Blue Ridge Coffee House.

For those who aren’t familiar, will you tell us about your company?
Blue Ridge Coffee House is a family-owned cafe located in Seattle’s Blue Ridge neighborhood. Built on the site of the original neighborhood realty office, our space has been lovingly reimagined as a welcoming spot for coffee, connection, and community. We serve thoughtfully sourced coffee with care and intention—because we believe the best coffee brings people together.
Can you tell us a bit about the new space?
The new Blue Ridge Coffee House is more than just a coffee shop—it’s a gathering place lovingly crafted within the bones of a 1932 building that once served as a local realty office. Nestled in the heart of Seattle’s Blue Ridge neighborhood, this space has been thoughtfully revived to reflect the character and charm of the community it serves. We worked with local designers, architects, and contractors to breathe new life into the original structure, reusing original materials wherever possible and honoring the building’s roots while making it safe, functional, and beautiful for today.
Inside, you’ll find a cozy interior that feels like a cross between your favorite neighborhood cafe and a welcoming living room. The layout encourages connection—between families, neighbors, and longtime friends. We’ve built every detail with intention, from the vintage-inspired furniture and finishes that feel timeless but approachable. Just down the street are the community swimming pool, local parks, and baseball fields, making us a natural stop for families and neighbors throughout the day. With a bus stop on the corner and steady foot traffic, it’s the perfect place to slow down, sip something wonderful, and stay awhile.
What’s your approach to coffee?
Our approach to coffee is rooted in simplicity, quality, and community. We believe great coffee should feel both special and familiar—something you look forward to each day, and something that brings people together. That’s why we’ve partnered with True North Coffee Roasters, a local roaster whose integrity and values match our own.
True North sources from small, family-owned farms, often working with the same producers year after year. Their green coffee curator has long-standing relationships with farmers and processing mills, allowing for full traceability from harvest all the way to the ports of Seattle and Oakland. More importantly, they pay well above fair trade pricing—choosing direct sourcing based on cup quality and long-term relationships rather than third-party labels. It’s a thoughtful, people-first approach that results in coffees we feel genuinely proud to serve.
Whether it’s a classic drip, a creamy oat milk latte, or your first dive into single-origin espresso, we’re here to make sure every cup feels intentional, welcoming, and deeply delicious.
Any machines, coffees, special equipment lined up?
We’re sourcing all of our equipment through La Marzocco, which feels like a full-circle moment since they’re based right here in Seattle. Their craftsmanship, design, and reliability are unmatched—and as a neighborhood shop with a deep love for this city, it means a lot to partner with a company that’s rooted in our own backyard.
We’ll be using a La Marzocco Linea PB espresso machine paired with a full suite of Mahlkönig grinders to ensure consistency and quality in every shot. We’re also excited to feature a cold brew system developed and patented by True North Coffee Roasters.
From day one, our goal has been to create a bar flow that supports both barista ease and customer connection—intentionally designed, beautifully functional, and built to last.
How is your project considering sustainability?
Sustainability for us is about making thoughtful, lasting choices—both in how we build and how we operate. While we had originally hoped to preserve and reuse much of the 1932 structure, we ultimately found that it was too deteriorated to safely remain intact. Still, wherever possible, we carefully salvaged materials—original walls, woodwork, and character details—that are now being thoughtfully re-integrated into the new space.
We’re sourcing high-quality, durable equipment designed to last and choosing materials and finishes that will hold up over time. On the coffee side, our roaster, True North, is deeply committed to ethical sourcing, paying well above fair trade prices and building long-term relationships with farmers, which supports a more sustainable and equitable coffee supply chain.
In our daily operations, we’ll be using recyclable disposable cups and making intentional choices to reduce unnecessary waste wherever we can. While we may not check every “green” box, we’re focused on building something that’s respectful of the past, mindful of our impact, and designed to serve our neighborhood for decades to come.
