Everyone knows what a Fridge Cigarette is. (By which I mean it is not the sneaky cigarette you have in the walk-in freezer mid-shift like I originally thought that it was, because I am old and out of touch.) Like all Gen Z trends, it started on the internet and has since grown into the real world. And because coffee is one of Gen Z’s favorite drinks, the Fridge Cigarette now comes in coffee.
The new signature drink, or cig bev as it were, comes from Los Angeles’s Noun Coffee, who have a cheeky reimagining of the viral drink. It consists of a Diet Coke (naturally) served over ice and mixed with a shot of espresso. You can add an orange cream float for a touch of extra decadence.
The drink began as a bit of a lark. Noun co-owner Drew Coffman (which is a great name for a coffee man) posted a photo on Twitter of the “new drink,” which at the time non-canonically included a Coke Zero. But after receiving a ton of positive online feedback, the Fridge Cigarette became a real drink that you could order. Still no word if the drink is meant to be consumed in the same amount of time it would take to suck down a heater, as is suggested by the name. Gotta feel like the cream top will slow you down a little bit.
This, as best I can tell, is the ideal use case for social media. A thing happens, it grows organically, someone makes a cheeky joke about it, which itself becomes popular, propelling the whole thing into existence. It’s very fun and of a specific moment here in 2025, which is what makes it a good sig bev.
