Moccamaster Once Again Laps Pantone For Color Of The Year

Not to further stir up more controversy where it doesn’t necessarily need to exist, but what the hell is Pantone doing? The beloved universal color system has once again dropped the ball with their Color of the Year. After last year’s disaster that was Mocha Mousse—easily the least satisfying part of a velvety chocolate mousse is the unsettling browness of it all—they came back this year and said, “okay fine, here’s a white or something.” Technically, it’s called Cloud Dancer, “a lofty white that serves as a symbol of calming influence in a society rediscovering the value of quiet reflection.” It’s some eggshell ass off-white is what it is.

Luckily for all the color-inclined there’s Moccamaster, who once again has proven their the who’s who of hues with their latest colorway of their iconic coffee brewer. Introducing the real color of the year for 2026, Sorbet.

Now this, this is a color. Announced over the weekend, Moccamaster describes the new color as a “vibrant coral shade” that “symbolizes vitality and refreshment, reflecting the rejuvenating energy of spring.” I am of course biased towards Sorbet because one, it looks great on a coffee machine, and two, it’s reminiscent of blackgazers Deafheaven’s seminal album Sunbather, which they describe as the color you see when you close your eyes after staring at the sun. So if you are asking, will I be purchasing a Sorbet Moccamaster just to put a Sunbather sticker on it, you already know the answer.

“This addition underscores Moccamaster’s dedication to merging form and function, offering consumers aesthetically appealing coffee brewers that complement current kitchen trends,” the press release states. It “[builds] on its annual tradition of offering a wide range of colors to suit any kitchen décor.”

The new colorway comes on the Moccamaster KBGV, the brand’s premier glass carafe brewer and one of the first to SCA-approved coffeemakers. (They also just released their first non-metallic color variant of their thermal carafes, in black, which is pretty sharp.)

The new Sorbet Color of the Year Moccamaster KBGV retails for $369 and is available for purchase at Moccasmaster. And while you’re there, pick up another one in the 2025 Color of the Year, the blue-green tranquility known as Ocean. I’m not saying you need two Moccamasters. What I am saying is that a Sorbet and Ocean coffee counter would be unimpeachable.
