September has come to an end. The Build-Outs of Coffee are in the rearview and cooler weather is just around the corner. Thus we turn the page to October, and lo and behold but calendar holds but a slew of coffee events. And what better place to keep track of all the goings on in coffee around the globe than the Sprudge Coffee Events Calendar, the completely free user-driven compendium of throwdowns, shindigs, learning sessions, and every other type of coffee hang. Feria International de Café, Cacao, y Agrotrusimo
Taking place October 1st through 4th, Feria International de Café, Cacao, y Agrotrusimo (FICCA) is a gathering of “producers, buyers, exporters, business leaders, entrepreneurs, organizations, investors, and experts” with the goal of strengthening coffee, cocoa, and agritourism value chains “through business opportunities, knowledge, and innovation.” Organized by Agrilink, the event will be hosted at the Centro de Convenciones José Eustasio Rivera in Neiva in Colombia’s Huila region. Ohio Is For Coffee Lovers Latte Art Throwdown
Also on October 1st, Six Shooter Coffee in Cleveland, OH is hosting a latte art throwdown in collaboration with Covoya Specialty Coffee. It’s part of their Ohio Is For Coffee Lovers series and this one is a good old fashioned throwdown. The $20 entry fee is split evenly between the prize pool and donation to “kindergartens and health clinics benefitting the coffee-growing communities in Ayarza, Guatemala, an area where Covoya regularly works. Pittsburgh Coffee Week
Pittsburgh Coffee Week is a community-driven event that brings together cafes and roasteries from around the PGH area for seven days of unique coffee events. Activations this year include everything from making your own coffee blend to a Turkish coffee experience, a filter coffee throwdown to roaster demos and even a coffee cocktails happy hour. Pennsylvania Chocolate & Coffee Festival
There must be something in the water in Pennsylvania because as soon as the Pittsburgh Coffee Week ends, the Pennsylvania Chocolate & Coffee Festival begins. Taking place October 24th and 25th in the greater Philadelphia area, the PCCF brings together 40 coffee companies and 40 chocolatiers under one roof for two days of sips and savors. Tickets are as low as $10 and can be purchased here.
Thriller Throwdown & Halloween Party
When is a throwdown not just a throwdown? When it’s also a costume party. On Saturday, October 24th at Rebel Dog Coffee in East Hartford, CT, that’s exactly what’s happening. The latte art contest/Halloween party will award the best pours and the best fits. There will be music and beer and wine available for purchase. Competitor entry is $20, with half going to the pot and other other going to benefit the same coffee-growing communities in Ayarza, Guatemala from the earlier throwdown. The grand prizes also include a “refurbished grinders from Mahlkönig Home, Barista Magazine subscriptions, and tons more from La Marzocco, Minor Figures, Covoya Specialty Coffee, notNeutral, and several local coffee companies!” Competitor registration can be done here.
