Our aim at Benchmark is to make it easy for anyone at all to know that the specialty coffee experience can be so much better than what they have gotten used to, come to expect, or even tried to imagine.
We’ve all had that experience where a café we went to could only do well on one or at most two of these factors: the coffee, the customer service, and just the overall vibe. For us, this presented the opportunity to set a new standard across the board. So, of course we took it.
Hence, Benchmark. It would be that café anyone could visit and leave feeling they didn’t just have a really good coffee but a really great experience they can’t wait to tell their friends about and have again, as soon and as often as possible. The incredibly generous reception of our community since we opened in August this year has been superbly reassuring.
We closely curated the elements we understand are the most critical to redefining the coffee experience. Those are: our people, coffee selections, roasting and espresso machines, the design of our space with its three focal points — the roasting room, the cafe and community space, and the coffee omakase room— as well as the corner location in the Al Jada neighborhood, with our terrace on the tree-lined promenade, touted as the new downtown of Sharjah.
Three dedicated bars in the main cafe area streamline operations ensuring our baristas can move with ease and efficiency to foster a more engaging and effortless café guest experience. One bar is just for the Slayer Steam and milk-based coffees; one just for pour-overs; and one for signature cold drinks (including Brood nitro coffee and non-coffee) and espresso with Slayer Espresso.
Emirati architectural designer Abdalla Almulla, founder of Dubai-based MULA Design Studio, was instrumental in achieving our aim. His designs marry global perspectives and best practices with the local community’s heartbeat, creating spaces with an easily felt, universally welcoming yet deeply, culturally nuanced appeal.
As a result, Benchmark embodies the spirit of contemporary Sharjah, as a distinctive microcosm of the country, in a way that feels both intimate and expansive.
