The manual grinder is an integral part of any travel coffee setup. But while generally prized for their compact, portable design, there’s absolutely no reason a manual grinder can’t also be your to-go for home coffee preparation. Enter NECCST, an all-new countertop manual grinder looking to add a little extra ritual to your morning coffee, and it’s live on Kickstarter now.
Perhaps the first thing you notice about the NECCST is its similarity to the other countertop manual grinder on the market, the HG-2 by Weber Workshops, right down to the grounds shaker. Created by München, Germany-based designer Fynn Eckstein, the NECCST grinder offers a more compact (for a big honking hand grinder) alternative, with a smaller price tag to boot. But that doesn’t mean it’s light on big promises for coffee enthusiasts.
Featuring 48mm titanium-coated conical burrs (compared to the HG-2’s 83mm conical burrs), the high-grade aluminum and stainless steel NECCST features stepless adjustments capable of grinding for everything from espresso to French press. It also touts zero grind retention.
But even though a manual grinder is decidedly more old school, the NECCST has a few modern technological options in store. There’s an integrated scale that seats directly under the grinder that can detach and double as a brew scale, with a .1g accuracy.
With just over three weeks left in the campaign, the NECCST has blown past their $10,000 goal, already earning $80,000. But there are still discounts available for would-be backers. Folks can secure their own manual grinder for €679 ($733 USD), a little over 25% off the retail price. For €819 ($884 USD), you can snag a grinder with the integrated scale. Rewards are scheduled to start shipping out May 2025.
