BOO! Now that you’re officially full of fright, use that feeling of terror and write some spooky coffee fiction! As is our mostly-annual tradition, Sprudge will be publishing original tales of coffee-themed dread the week leading up to Halloween, and we want to read your stories—and publish them.
It’s one of our favorite times of the year, when we get to read coffee stories that stretch a bit of creative muscle (and send a chill down our spines). The topic is completely up to you, so long as it is of a coffee bent. Whatever it is about coffee that gives you chills, be it fastastical tales of horror or stories whose frights come from their realness, we want to read it. Submissions are due by Sunday, October 20th.

No previous writing experience is required. We don’t need your CV to consider your story for inclusion in this year’s festivities, and in fact, some of our favorite tales have come from first-time Sprudge contributors. The Trade Secret by Levi Rogers and Extreme Measures by Olivia Laskowski are but two such shining examples. You too can etch your name in blood alongside industry leaders like Michelle Johnson, Mike Ferguson, Nathanael May, Ever Meister, and Eric J. Grimm, who have taken part in our yearly horror series.
We’ll be picking a total of three original stories from three unique writers this year, based on how fun and terrifying they are to read—and whether or not they fit our haunted vision for this year’s week of spooky content. Shoot for 1,000 words or so, but don’t get too hung up on the numbers. Tell your tale in the best way possible, but a 3,000-word story is going to have to be really good to make the cut.
Along with living on forever in infamy in the spooky halls of Sprudge Halloween Fiction, the winning entries will also be awarded an honorarium of $100. That’s a lot of Snickers Bar Lattes. Check out some of our near 10 years worth of original Halloween fiction for ins-boo-ration.
