Grounds For Health is a non-profit organization supporting women’s health in coffee producing regions by bringing life-saving cancer screenings to often remote areas where access to care is difficult. Working with coffee cooperatives and local health care professionals, they establish prevention programs in hopes of curbing cervical cancer, which kills more women in developing regions than any other type of cancer.
As they’ve done in the past, Grounds For Health is raising funds to help further their mission and they are doing so with an auction. The GFHAuction takes place Wednesday and Thursday, September 23rd and 24th, and features a host of exceptional specialty green coffees from around the world as well as different coffee equipment and services.
Celebrating their 30th anniversary, Grounds For Health has raised over $1 million via their coffee auctions; last year’s brought in nearly $30,000 and featured a washed Gesha from Panama’s Finca Esmeralda. While there are no Geshas up for grabs, this year’s auction list shines in its diversity. Unique lots like the Vietnam Great Cherry Dak Lak Anaerobic Natural Robusta, the Mexico Nayarit Women Producers Reserva Natural SHG EP, and the Indonesia Sumatra Grade 1 DP Gayo FTO offer the chance to nab coffees rarely scene on specialty menus. Meanwhile a natural Pink Bourbon from Colombia and a natural Java from Costa Rica comprise the higher end of the starting prices. Coffees from Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Guatemala, and Honduras round out the 21 total lots available, all courtesy of donors like Genuine Origin, Coffee Shrub, La Minita, Sustainable Harvest, Balzac Brothers, InterAmerican, and more.
The equipment and services side includes items like a Ditting-compatible 5lb grinder hopper extension, a FincaLab Model 4 Sample Roaster, and a Q Grader course.
The auctions takes place online and 100% of the proceeds go to benefit Ground For Health. It all gets started at 12:00pm ET, Wednesday, September 23rd at GFHAuction.com and runs through 6:00pm the following day. For more information, to register, or to view a full list of the offerings, visit the GFHAuction official website.
