We here at the Sprudge Media Network Design Department like to think of ourselves as international purveyors of fine design. For two years here at Sprudge we’ve trotted the globe finding the most suitable and desirous packages to sup upon and today we find ourselves agog at the dark and moody (yet playful and alluring) design of Mad Espresso Team‘s coffee boxes.
We spoke with Mad Espresso Team member Irina Sharipova to learn more.
As told to Sprudge by Irina Sharipova.
Tell us a bit about your company.
Mad Espresso Team was opened in April 2016 in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. It is a project of North-West Coffee company – the idea was to create a reference of a cafe and make a cozy atmosphere.
The inspiration for the concept came to co-owner Vasiliy Ladygin (also known as roasters and barista-coach in Northwest Coffee Company) and Chris Speirs (general director of Northwest Coffee Company). During their trip to Australia, they were moved by a painstaking approach to everything and decided to bring it to the north capital in Russia–to Saint Petersburg.
Thanks to them and their team of inspired baristas, Mad Espresso Team became an important reference point for the coffee culture of the city. Encyclopedic knowledge and thorough approach to the coffee combined with delicious coffee and modern international food.
Coffee is being roasted by co-owner Ladygin himself by roaster on the Diedrich.
When did the coffee package design debut?
We launched this package at the end of November. As we have a special design of the package the most difficult part was to wait for a result from typography. Which was too long but worthwhile.
Who designed the package?
It was designed by self-employed Russian designer Jan Zaretsky, who is currently working for us and for NWCC. It is our brainchild along with the logo of Mad Espresso Team.
What coffee information do you share on the package?
We put stickers on the top of the box. There is info about region, variety, altitude and [processing] method (dry/washed).
What’s the motivation behind that
It is actually a mad style of our view to brewing coffee, signature beverages, design, service and food.
Where is the bag manufactured?
The bag is manufactured in the local typography NP-PRINT which we work with.
Is the package recyclable/compostable?
Yes, it is made of clean cardboard. You should sort it out from another trash and pass it to recycling.
