You can now roast your way to origin thanks to the Genuine Origin Coffee Project. Called Roast & GO, this new kind of coffee competition will send the winner on an all-expenses-paid origin trip to Honduras. All you have to do is out-roast the competition.
In order to be considered, roasters must order a box of Honduras Guama Danta from the Genuine Origin Project and submit two roasted samples by December 14th. The samples will then be assessed by a panel of trained coffee tasters using the SCAA’s roasted coffee evaluation form in order to determine the eight finalists. The big winner will be decided on December 16th via a live blind cupping held at Rise Coffee in St. Louis.
Along with the origin trip, the winner will receive “a box of Genuine Origin microlot green coffee, sponsor prizes, glory & bragging rights. Rise Coffee will also purchase and feature the winning roast.” Second and third place finishers will receive an invite to origin, but they’ll have to go on their own dime.
And if tasting coffee is more your speed, the triangulation cupping will be held at the Roast & GO finals event, and the winner will earn an almost-all-expenses-paid (sans airfare) origin trip to Honduras. The cupping is free to enter, but spots are limited. You can pre-register by emailing Anthony@GenuineOrigin.com.
There’s not a lot of time left to enter either competition, so if you want to win your way to origin, you better get (first) crackin’.
