Well folks, here we are—the final recap of the summer. Tomorrow marks the start of Autumn, and Sprudge.com is saying goodbye to summer with a bang. It’s was a week packed full of great features and stories from all over the coffee world, and just in case you missed it, here’s what’s happened in the last 7 days.
Barnett: Our very own Bay Area Correspondent Leif Haven was on hand last weekend for Linea Caffe’s private debut. Mr. Haven snagged the world’s very first look inside Andrew Barnett’s hotly anticipated new roaster/retailer and has the photos to prove it. The cafe opened to the San Francisco public on Wednesday.
Bernson & Beard: Alex Bernson and Kate Beard trekked through Italian countryside, just outside of Florence, to visit the famed La Marzocco Factory. Mr Bernson’s prose and Ms. Beard’s eye painted a lovely picture of LM and provided us with a fantastic virutal tour of the place. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and wish you were there… lamarzoccosprudge-14-640×425.jpg
Büyük başarı: Your 2014 World Cezve Ibrik Champion is Mr. Turgay Yildizli! Mr. Yildizli placed first out of nine countries total, in a competition that matched competitors from around the world in a display of mastery over the “Turkish coffee” Cezve / Ibrik brewing style. He used a Sulawesi Pedamaran AA from Ceremony Coffee Roasters, in Annapolis, Maryland.
Beautiful Bars: Joana Han took a photographic look at Solberg & Hansen’s gorgeous space in Oslo. The photos begin with images of Solberg & Hansen, Mathallen, a kind of “concept” store that presents the brand’s coffees to the public in a controlled, high quality environment. S&H is actually Norway’s first roasting company, opened in 1879.
Also, Alex Bernson took us through visual paradise this week with a look at three beautiful coffee bars in Australia that can’t be missed.
Speaking of Australia…
Babycinos: The crew at St. Ali North have put together an unabashed, game-changing coffee menu for all the little froth-loving tykes that stroll into their shop. That’s right, it’s a curated & seasonal babycino menu. Our standard has been set.
Bizarre Food Trucks: Competition season is approaching quickly, and we here at Sprudge are dedicated to bringing you all the latest—including what to expect at each event. We started this week by breaking the news that Andrew Zimmern’s food truck, AZ Canteen, will be stationed outside this year’s Big Central Regional event. You may know Mr. Zimmern from his television show “Bizarre Foods.”
Buildouts: You may have thought that since it’s the last week of summer, that coffee spot build- outs were slowing down. Wrong! We’ve got another onslaught of behind-the-scenes looks of brand new coffee spaces and their current construction progress. This may be the last group of the year, but it’s a good one.
