Of all the unnecessary holidays jockeying for position on the calendar, of which there are many—National Sneak Some Zucchini On Your Neighbor’s Porch Day (Aug 8), Snowplow Mailbox Hockey Day (Jan 23), National Ding-A-Ling Day (Dec 12) just to name a few—Ice Cream For Breakfast Day is easily the best. One, it involves ice cream. Two, it demands you have it for breakfast. And three, did I mention the ice cream?
There is of course another breakfast time foodstuffs that shant be forgotten, and it is coffee. Luckily, as the affogato has taught us, coffee and ice cream are a match made in Heaven. (Heaven here being breakfast in bed.) That’s why, just in time for tomorrow’s Ice Cream For Breakfast Day, Jeni’s has teamed up with Verve Coffee Roasters for a brand new flavor, known as House Coffee.
Available today, February 6th, House Coffee packs in the coffee flavor. It starts with mixing Verve’s instant coffee with hot milk and cream to develop a coffee-flavored base. To that, fine ground espresso powder gets folded in to add a punch of fresh coffee flavor. The result is a “sweet, robust and smooth scoop that reminds them of a freshly brewed coffee.”
And to celebrate, both Verve and Jeni’s are holding giveaways for those who couldn’t wait to get their hands on some coffee ice cream. 10 lucky winners will get a yearlong coffee subscription, receiving a 12oz bag of coffee every four weeks. Jeni’s meanwhile will be giving away a year’s supply of ice cream, that they have set as 52 ice creams (which is making me questions my annual ice cream consumption levels). To enter, folks will have to visit a Jeni’s store today, download the Jeni’s app and sign up for the Splendid Rewards program, then scan the app at checkout.
And while I consider myself more a custodian of the custard than a gentleman of gelato, I see no reason I can’t be an helado hombre for but a single, exquisite day. Or morning as it were. For more information, visit Jeni’s Ice Cream’s official website.
