Last month, we brought news of Kansas City’s FairWave Specialty Coffee Collective acquiring two Minneapolis-based sister companies, Folly Coffee Roasters and Philtera Cold Brewed Coffees, continuing their growth in Minnesota and Missouri. And now, their Midwest expansion grows eastward into Wisconsin with their acquisition of Milwaukee’s Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co.

Opened in 1999, Anodyne has been a staple in the Milwaukee coffee scene for over two decades and is arguably one of the biggest names FairWave has acquired in the three years since its formation. As reported by Globe Newswire, Anodyne is the first Wisconsin brand to come under the FairWave umbrella and the 10th coffee company overall.

“With more than two decades of experience in the specialty coffee industry, Anodyne is bringing a wealth of talent and experience to the collective,” said Joe Marrocco, VP of coffee sourcing and product development. “Milwaukee has a strong sense of community with a vibrant food and beverage scene, and we couldn’t be happier to launch in this market with such an incredible partner.”

Like previous acquisitions by FairWave, Anodyne will continue to act independently, and the day-to-day cafe and roastery activities will remain unchanged. Becoming part of the conglomerate will allow Anodyne access to FairWave’s much more extensive buying network.

Per the press release, Anodyne’s leadership team—Steve Kessler, Nolan Truttschel, Laura Lown, and Stephanie Burton—”will serve as FairWave’s local Milwaukee ownership group.” At the same time, owners Matt McClutchy and Lacee Perry “will become partial owners in FairWave through this transition.”
