UPDATE!

The Spin Master acquisition widely reported yesterday needs correcting. Sprudge received this message from Alex Tennant of Aerobie this morning:

Spin Master did not purchase Aerobie, Inc. It only purchased our assets related to our sport toy business. The Spin Master press release was wrong. Aerobie, Inc. is still 100% owned by Alan Adler and the AeroPress coffee maker business is still owned by Aerobie, Inc. If Alan does eventually sell the AeroPress coffee maker business, in spite of Alan’s background, it will likely not be to a toy company.

This just in: Canadian toy company Spin Master has acquired certain assets of Aerobie. This is Spin Master’s seventh major acquisition in two years. Aerobie Inc., famous for its Guiness World Record breaking flying discs, is well known in the coffee world for its AeroPress coffee maker.

CBC News reports:

“Acquisitions such as Aerobie are a key part of our overall growth strategy,” Spin Master’s chief operating officer Ben Gadbois said in a release. “We will further innovate the Aerobie line using our global research and development network, and leverage Spin Master’s global sales and marketing infrastructure to grow sales internationally.”

Spin Master is known for its Meccano, Hatchimals, Air Hogs and Paw Patrol brands.

We reported back in November that Aerobie founder Alan Adler sought to sell his company. In the piece, Adler penned a letter to coffee community. “You are the nicest people in the world and we are very thankful for the privilege of working with you. Hopefully this is not goodbye but perhaps just a note that there are some changes in the wind,” Adler wrote.

We’ve reached out to Aerobie and Spin Master and will update this story if we receive comment. Watch this space!

Correction: The original headline read “Aerobie, Makers of AeroPress, Acquired By Canadian Toy Company” and has been changed. The original article has been clarified. Spin Master purchased all of the assets related to the sport toys business and that includes the brand “Aerobie”.
