There’s A New Coffee Watch For Your Coffee Watch Collection

The coffee watch space (yes there are enough of them to be considered a bona fide “space”) has been mostly dominated by Brew Watches. And for good reason. While others, mostly watchmakers making one-off coffee pieces, lean heavy on the gimmick, like incorporating coffee imagery or coffee itself into the design, Brew more takes the approach of “someone into coffee will recognize the coffee in this while everyone else will just think it’s a nice watch.”

But maybe you want a little extra coffee in your coffee watch. Maybe you want a touch of fun. Or Chronofuns. That’s the name of a new watch brand who have just created the Coffee in Motion Chronograph, a new coffee-focused timepiece, and it’s live on Kickstarter now.

There are a ton of coffee details built into the 38mm Coffee in Motion Chronograph. Each of the hour markers is denoted by a small silver coffee bean, with the minute and hour hand designed to resemble a wooden stir stick. One of the watch’s complications is a 30 second chronograph presumably meant to be used as an espresso shot time (similar to those seen in many of the Brew watches). The other is a little more fun. At 9:00, “the traditional running-seconds subdial is reimagined as a cup of coffee in motion—with swirling liquid and gently rising steam bringing the dial to life.”

The watch utilizes an ST1901 mechanical movement (meaning it must be wound by hand), which is based on a Swiss movement but coming from a Chinese manufacturer. The Coffee in Motion Chronograph is one of the few coffee watches to use a mechanical movement.

It comes in three coffee-inspired colors: Cappuccino, Matcha Latte, and Iced Americano (though more heavy on the iced than the Americano). And staying on brand, each one is packaged inside a reusable espresso cup like the ones you see people wearing around their necks at World of Coffee events.

With two weeks left in the campaign, the Kickstarter has earned over six times its $5,000 target, but there are still discounts to be had. Backers can get a watch of their choosing for $459, $100 off the retail price. Only 101 watches in each color will be made, so if you’re thinking about waiting until after the Kickstarter to purchase, you may want to reconsider.

At this point you can have an entire coffee watch collection. You’ve got your watch made of coffee via Koffeeform and Lilienthal Berlin and you’ve got your elegant timepiece in Brew’s Retrograph and their Metric Digital Blend if you’re looking very ’80s-inspired. And now you have the Coffee In Motion Chronograph, a fun mechanical watch to round it out.
