Oakland, California – August 7, 2026 – Royal Coffee’s third “Development Stage” event, featuring coffee-related conversations and tastings, has been announced for Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th of September at The Crown: Royal Coffee Lab & Tasting Room in Oakland, California.

Featured speakers and collaborators include famed coffee producers and pioneers Felix Chambi Garcia and Yulissa Chambi (Bolivia’s 2024 AeroPress Champion), Professors from University of California, Davis Julien Delarue (Sensory & Consumer Science) and Gaëlle Chanlot Delarue (Agriculture and Natural Resources, Applied Research), Kyle Engleman (Executive Director of Grounds for Health), Mike Reis (Advanced Cicerone, Co-owner of Redfield Cider), and Haile Stevens (Fellow Products).

This year’s theme is focused on “frontiers,” and features sessions on consumer-focused research, and community and smallholder farmer support in addition to the coffee-centric lectures and tastings that have been the hallmark of past years’ event.

The event website states: “This year we’re exploring the support structures that power possibility, from sensory science, accessible healthcare, nonprofit partnerships, and the economics and environments that sustain coffee producing communities. Our third annual symposium unites innovators and legends from the coffee world and beyond, joining The Crown team on the stage to discuss, collaborate, and explore what the frontiers of specialty coffee look like.”

The name “Development Stage” implies a platform for growth and innovation, and the phrase is a nod to the final moments of roasting coffee, a term used to denote the craft and skill of the roaster.

The event takes place at The Crown: Royal Coffee Lab & Tasting Room at 2523 Broadway in Oakland, CA, a premier coffee education venue in the midst of Oakland’s vibrant Uptown culinary and arts scene.

Tickets are available now. Two-day passes are $115. One-day passes for Friday are $95, while Saturday’s Redfield Cider Tasting is $25 if purchased alone. Saturday’s morning and noon sessions are free to attend.
