All three models are designed and built in-house in Northeast Minneapolis, where solar supplies about three-quarters of the energy for Mill City’s fabrication and assembly facilities and its in-house roastery.
From Announcement to Three Models in One Year
In January 2026, Mill City Roasters announced the M-Series and the complete onshoring of its manufacturing from China to Minneapolis. Since then, the company has released the 6kg and 10kg models, and on Oct. 9 began delivering the 20kg.
Bringing three new commercial roaster models to market in a single year is uncommon in the equipment industry. Mill City credits the pace to keeping engineering, fabrication and assembly under one roof, where design changes move from CAD to the shop floor in hours rather than months.
“When we announced the M-Series, we were well on our way to building the most vertically integrated roaster factory in the US,” said Steve Green, President of Mill City Roasters. “Shipping the 20kg means every model we promised for this year is now real, built by our own team in Minneapolis.”
Built Here, Start to Finish
Every M-Series roaster is cut, formed, welded, machined and assembled at Mill City’s 40,000-square-foot facility at 401 Harding Street. The plant leverages state-of-the-art manufacturing technology to deliver precision and consistency on every build, including a 6,000-watt fiber laser, three 2,000-watt laser welders, a 150-ton 5-axis Amada CNC press brake, and Haas and Milltronics CNC machining centers.
Owning the full process gives Mill City direct control over quality and lead times, and lets its engineers refine each model based on what the shop floor and customers report. The 20kg benefits from lessons learned building the 6kg and 10kg earlier this year.
The 20kg shares the M-Series platform: a fully insulated monolithic plate steel chassis, custom stainless steel burner sets, a shaftless double-walled drum, a run-silent exhaust fan system, and RoastPATH built in as the touchscreen control system, with integrated data logging, remote firmware upgrades and diagnostics.
Software That Grows With the Roaster
RoastPATH, Mill City’s in-house data-logging application for any roaster and the control system built into every M-Series, is slated to add inventory management in early 2027. The update will let roasters track green coffee and roasted stock alongside their roast data, in the same system they already use to log and review roasts.
Next Up: The 30kg
Mill City Roasters will begin building its first 30kg M-Series roaster in January 2027, extending the line for high-volume wholesale and production roasters.
Roasters can reserve units in upcoming production batches of every M-Series model — the 6kg, 10kg, 20kg and 30kg — through millcityroasters.com or by contacting the Mill City sales team.
