Since 2003, the Nordic Barista Cup has been the premiere Scandinavian national team competition/seminar program in all of Scandinavia. Coffee professionals from around the world visit to enjoy engaging lectures, influential speakers, marathon cuppings, wine tastings, whale pairings, and costumed galas. NBC’s motto is to “be together, act together, learn together”, and togetherness is had all around. This year marks its tenth anniversary and it’s all happening in Oslo. Each year the event celebrates a “focus country” – and this year it’s all about Brazil.

The welcome ceremony begins at Espresso Spesialisten in just a few hours – follow along via Twitter #nbc2013 and online at the NBC Official Blog. We were the first to announce the impressive list of speakers earlier this year, and we’ll post about them as they become available.

Our Assistant Editor Alex Bernson is speaking tomorrow. More on his talk:

Alex’s overriding passion is the unique social roles cafes fill in their communities. In 2011, he graduated from Wesleyan University with a multi-disciplinary degree in Feminist & Queer Theory focused Urban Sociology, after completing an honors thesis entitled “The Social Space of The Café: How Service and Physical Design Condition Social Performances”.

Alex has written on this subject for Sprudge a number of times. We recommend:
