Decatur, GA – Opo Coffee is proud to announce the launch of the Opo Upside Scholar Program, a new initiative aimed at making specialty coffee education more accessible to aspiring coffee professionals. Aligned with Opo Coffee’s mission “to use specialty coffee to make a positive impact in people’s lives throughout the world,” the scholar program will offer recipients the opportunity to receive professional training through the Specialty Coffee Association’s (SCA) Coffee Skills Program.

The Upside Scholar Program is divided into three tiers, corresponding to Opo Coffee’s core values: Respect, Positivity, and Honor. Each tier provides a unique level of training, from introductory courses to advanced skill development, as well as a range of benefits, including:
SCA Coffee Skills courses taught by Authorized SCA Trainers at the Opo Training Lab.
One-on-one coaching sessions with industry professionals.
Specialized barista gear and supplies.
All course fees, equipment, and supplies are covered by Opo Coffee and Upside Scholar
Program sponsors, including La Marzocco, Espresso Parts, Barista Magazine, and Created Co.
The program is open to individuals nominated by someone within their community. Nominations will be accepted from November 1 to November 30, with awardees announced in December. Scholars will complete their courses throughout 2025.
