I’m a big fan of airport coffee. In the so-bad-it’s-good sort of way, like watching The Room or Birdemic. Once you level set your expectations accordingly, you can really appreciate a good cup of bad airport coffee. But you know what’s even better than bad airport coffee? Good airport coffee. And in Philadelphia, that’s what Elixr Coffee Roasters is brewing up, who have just opened a new cafe inside the Philadelphia International Airport.

Their latest cafe, opened between Terminals B and C, is the seventh retail location for Elixr, and like with the others they will be serving classic and specialty coffee” drinks—think espresso-based drinks like lattes and cappuccinos as well as filter options—alongside pastries and other light fare sourced from area bakeries.

The PHL location was brought to fruition in collaboration with Jackmont Hospitality, a hospitality and restaurant management group that focusses on retail outlets inside airports. Elixr joins other in-airport coffee companies managed by Jackmont like Green Beans Coffee, though they are the first specialty-focused brand in the portfolio.

“Since Elixr started in Philly, we’re particularly proud to expand with our newest location at PHL, one of the region’s busiest locations,” said [Elixr co-founder Evan] Inatome. “We are travelers ourselves and know the comfort and importance of a great cup of coffee away from home.”

Elixr now joins fellow Philadelphia-native specialty coffee brand La Colombe with locations inside PHL. Which seems a bit unfair frankly. While most international airports aren’t even able to muster up a single halfway decent coffee shop, PHL has multiple.

This is normally where I’d take a swipe at the Iggles, as is my duty as a Cowboys fan, but I’ll instead say that I now anxiously await my next opportunity to visit the City of Brotherly Love. The coffee scene is great, the food as well, and the underground music scene is maybe one of the best in the country. And now with really good airport coffee, a trip to Philly can get started off right from the jump. Or it can help hasten your departure after you accidentally make a Yuengling-fueled disparaging remark or two about how trash Jalen Hurts is.
