Coffee Masters, the multi-disciplinary coffee hexathlon, descends upon Manhattan this weekend as part of the New York Coffee Festival. But before that all gets going, why not practice your latte arts for a good cause (and a chance to win $1,000)?

The aptly-named Latte Art Pour Party is the inaugural event for Coffee Disco, a “new series of events aimed at fostering community + innovation in the NY coffee scene.” And they are starting things off right, with the winner of the latte art throwdown taking home a hefty $1,000 cash prize. Hosted by Supercrown Coffee Roasters, the event will also feature free beer from Sixpoint Brewery, cascara and coffee cocktails, a live set from DJ Crystal Beth, a raffle, and “ATX style tacos” from King David Tacos.

A Texan Aside: The designation “ATX style tacos” offends me to my core. There are a million different types of tacos served in Austin; there is no single “Austin style.” These are breakfast tacos. Shame on any Texan who calls them anything different. /TexanRant

All proceeds from Latte Art Pour Party go to RiseBoro, a community program “dedicated to affordable housing, health care, education, youth development, empowerment, and more.”

It all goes down on Thursday night starting at 7:30pm at Supercrown Coffee’s Bushwick coffee roastery. Admission is $5 at the door. Sprudge is proud be a sponsor of Coffee Disco’s first event. So if you’re going to be in New York for the NY Coffee Festival, make plans to pregame the night before at the Latte Art Pour Party. Listen to some music, drink some drinks, eat some breakfast tacos; they’re good at any time of the day.
