Ah springtime—the sun is beginning to return to us, the flowers are blooming, and real-life, honest-to-goodness, in-person coffee festivals are making a comeback. And like the first fleck of green freshly budding from the loamy soil, so too comes the news of the emergence of the 2022 Glasgow Coffee Festival. After a two-year hiatus (sort of), Scotland’s preeminent coffee event returns for two days of in-person festivities and two-week cafe-hopping after party.
Kicked off some eight years ago by Dear Green Coffee Roasters’ owner Lisa Lawson, the Glasgow Coffee Festival has continued to grow over the years… until the pandemic hit, leaving the event to pivot to an online-only event. But now, two years out, the GCF is ready to bring everyone back under one big proverbial tent. Taking place May 7th and 8th at The Briggait, this year’s event features over 50 coffee businesses from around the UK for attendees to connect with and learn more about as well as “loads of free coffee, tastings, talks, film screenings, roasting demos and much more!” Participating companies this year include: Dear Green, Steampunk Coffee Roasters, Gatehouse, Sprigg, Two Birds, Gordon St Coffee, Riverhill, La Marzocco, Compak, KeepCup, and many, many more.
And if two days of coffee partying isn’t enough, the Glasgow Coffee Festival is yet again taking it “to the streets” for two weeks of cafe hopping, with over 50 local specialty coffee shops offering deals and discounts to ticket holders, taking place May 2nd through 15th
Though the GCF is back in person have a hiatus, they haven’t forgotten their mission. As with previous years, single-use cups are verboten at the festivities, with the organizers suggesting folks bring their own reusable cups. And this year, all profits from the event will go to a fundraiser organized by Glasgow’s Ukrainian-run Deanston Bakery benefitting Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
Tickets for the 2022 Glasgow Coffee Festival are £12 per day pass—you can select with AM and PM sessions for both Saturday and Sunday—and £5 for the To The Streets festivities. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the Glasgow Coffee Festival’s official website.
