The BeanGo Cube X Pro: A New Home Roaster With Automatic Crack Detection

Home roasting is the final evolution of the home coffee enthusiast. Because once you start roasting your own coffee, you have full control, for better or worse, of the outcome. It may also be the most daunting. It’s more than just turning green seeds brown, roasting coffee is a whole new world of variables and metrics that need to be tracked, all of which can significantly impact the final product.

But there’s a new home roaster is looking to ease the learning curve. The BeanGo Cube X Pro is a small-batch smart roaster with automatic first and second crack detection, and it’s live on Kickstarter now.

The BeanGo Cube X Pro is an app-enable drum roaster capable of roasting 100-300g per batch in roughly 10 to 15 minutes time. It is designed to be beginner-friendly but scale with the user. It includes PID-stabilized preheating, preset roast curves, and press-and-play operation for those in a rush or those wanting to roast their own coffee but aren’t yet ready to get too in the weeds.

It’s main feature, though, is the automatic crack detection system. Using built-in acoustic sensors, the BeanGo Cube can identify first and second crack in a roast and will automatically note them in the roast profile on the app. Then once you’ve got your profile nailed down, BeanGo Cube can auto-replicate it on subsequent batches by “detecting bean temperature, DTR, BR rise, and cracks.”

As users get more accustomed to roasting, the BeanGo Cube can be manually driven and is compatible with Artisan roasting technology.

With a little over five weeks left in the campaign, the BeanGo Cube X Pro has already double its $10,000 goal. But there are still rewards aplenty for would-be backers, including a roasting unit for $2,599, which is 27% off the $3,550 MSRP. Optional add-ons like a cooling machine and a smoke extractor are also available. Rewards are scheduled to begin shipping out in September.

So if home roasting is on your mood board but you aren’t quite sure where to start, maybe the BeanGo Cube X Pro is just the roaster you’ve been looking for. For more information or to reserve your own, visit the BeanGo Cube X Pro Kickstarter page.
