No one loves a coffee collab like Onyx loves a coffee collab. The Northwest Arkansas-based coffee roaster. In the past they’ve collaborated with Animal Collective, August Burns Red, and Lecrae, amongst a host of other music acts as well as breweries, other coffee brands, racecar drivers, dancers, etc. There are too many to mention, but you can find an expanded list here, in our article about another one of their collaborations. (Really makes you wonder if the Lab in Onyx Coffee Lab is short for collab.)
And now they are back to collaborate with another Grammy winner. This time it’s German DJ and producer Zedd, who has teamed up with Onyx for a limited release, Telos.
The single origin coffee is in honor of the one-year anniversary of the album of the same name (which has a “collab” with the late icon Jeff Buckley, whatever that means, for a remix of Dream Brother). Per the press release, for the limited release, the Russian-born musician “[tried] hundreds of coffees” before landing on a Pacamara variety from El Salvador. It’s washed processed and roasted to an “expressive light” roast suitable for both filter and espresso, hot or cold, with notes of raisin, black tea, rose, and cara cara orange.
“It’s been an honor to work with Zedd on bringing his passion for specialty coffee to his audience,” said Onyx co-founder Jon Allen. “We’re thrilled to share the result of this collaboration with fans of Zedd’s music and with coffee lovers who want to experience an exceptional coffee offering.”
A total of 556lb of the coffee will be made of the limited run, and 10oz bags are available for purchase via both Onyx’s and Zedd’s websites.
If you really want to taste the synergy between coffee and music, you can use Telos the album to sonically vibrate the espresso bed for Telos the coffee a la 2024 World Barista Championship Runner-Up Jack Simpson. For more information on Telos, visit Onyx Coffee Lab’s official website.
