The fallout from COVID-19 continues to impact every aspect of public life in America, but that’s not stopping LaNisa Williams. A Sprudge Twenty alum and coffee trainer with her Barista Life LA brand, Williams is partnering with Alvinya Key to open Hustler’s Cup Coffee in Los Angeles, and they’ve created a GoFundMe page to make the dream a reality.

The fundraising for Hustler’s Cup kicked off with a bang; Williams was one of the first recipients of a $5,000 grant from Seattle Coffee Gear and Getchusomegear to help marginalized business owners in “navigating new ventures and transitioning to newer and bigger things for themselves in coffee.” With the GoFundMe, Williams and Key—who met two years ago through a mutual friend before earlier this year deciding to go into business together—are hoping to raise an additional $20,000 to help with “start-up costs (plumbing, electrical upgrades, and equipment).”

Located in the Van Ness neighborhood in south Los Angeles, the Hustler’s Cup will take up residence in a 300-square-foot space to “not only offer specialty coffee” but create a gathering space for the community to “come and network with one another.” The plan, as of now, is to have the space up and running by mid-November. Williams tells Sprudge, “I’m most excited about the Hustle and Motivation that I plan to display in my shop day to day. I’m excited to see what coffee can do for my community.”

Currently, the Hustler’s Cup Coffee GoFundMe campaign has reached $5,250 of its $20,000 goal. For more information or to donate or share the campaign, visit the Hustler’s Cup GoFundMe page. And to follow the progress of the build-out, make sure to follow them on Instagram.
