London and Berlin, two of Europe’s great coffee cities. And these two titans of caffeination are coming together for one hell of a good time. The London Brew Up is a coffee competition put on by Berlin’s The Barn featuring brews of multiple varieties, hefty prizes, and giveaways.
Taking place July 25th at Fabrica X, the London Brew Up is a celebration of the one-year anniversary of The Barn opening their first UK cafe, in the Fitzrovia neighborhood. At the heart of the event is a coffee brewing competition. Using V60s, 18 competitors across six heats will make their best cup using the coffee provided, to be assessed by an expert panel of judges. The winners of each heat will go on to the Semi-Finals in hopes of making it to the Finals, where cash and prizes await the victor.
The grand prize is a Comandante hand grinder and £150 cash, while second and third place take home an Acaia scale and a prize from Fabrica X, respectively. Judges for the event will be The Barn founder Ralf Rüller, Acaia’s Susan Kealy, and All Things Bloom Coffee founder Henry Ayers.
And if competing isn’t really your thing, spectator tickets are available and they come with one free drink, and bag of coffee, and an entry into a raffle. The grand prize for the raffle is a one-year subscription to The Barn and a V60 dripper and server set. Additional giveaways will happen throughout the day.
Competitor tickets are £15 and open to all, enthusiasts included, though they are currently sold out and operating on a wait list. There are still spectator tickets available for £5, but those are in limited quantity and also expected to sell out, so act fast if you want to secure your spot.
