With innovative ease-of-use updates and no electronics, the 49 PRO is an absolute powerhouse in manual espresso brewing, featuring full control over your extraction all at an affordable price. The Flair 49 PRO is so named for the addition of a 49mm portafilter basket, with a beautiful redwood handle. 49mm baskets were first introduced in the 1960’s and have seen a resurgence in popularity as of late.
Why is a 49mm basket so special?
- A deeper basket allows more tolerance when dialing-in the grind size, reducing the impact of small inconsistencies in your grounds. You don’t have to grind as fine.
- A more narrow coffee puck reduces the risk of channeling.
- It tolerates lower doses more easily, especially around 12-14 grams.
- A deeper basket can offer a more controlled extraction by increasing flow resistance and contact time which can result in a shot with more body and mouth feel.
What else makes the 49 PRO special?
- No disassembly between shots – The cylinder and piston are fixed and feature a stainless steel valve plunger, simplifying the workflow and making back-to-back brewing much easier.
- All stainless-steel brewing path – No plastic touches your water or coffee throughout the brewing process.
- Optimized heat retention – The completely stainless steel brewing head is engineered for faster heating and includes an innovative hollow stainless steel plunger to maximize thermal efficiency.
- Two baskets included – A pressurized basket for beginners (for pre-ground coffee or use with any grinder), and a bottomless basket for advanced brewers.
- Fully Brewing Control with T-grip – As a fully manual lever espresso maker, the Flair 49 PRO features an elongated lever with a T-grip that provides full control over your extraction from pre-infusion to 9BAR
- Integrated Pressure Gauge – An integrated pressure gauge provides for immediate brew feedback, so home baristas can immediately manage their pressure and flow-profiles
