Driving While Espresso With The New Audi Q7 Signature Edition

Everybody wants coffee on the go. It’s the reason roughly half a trillion, with a T, to-go coffee cups get used globally each year. But what if the coffee shop isn’t on the go enough for your busy schedule, presumably as part of the executive suite of some multi-national conglomerate? Well then for you there’s the new Audi Q7 Signature Edition. The limited-run luxury SUV comes equipped with a “specialty mobile espresso system.” Making pressurized hot coffee while driving, it’s probably fine.

As reported by News 24, the new Q7 comes appointed with a slew of luxurious new features, including a 10” digital driver display, air quality control with fragrance control, a Bang & Olufsen audio system, multi-color ambient lighting, and of course espresso.

Not much information is given about the unit itself, but based on photos it appears to be similar to the 12V-powered mobile espresso maker via the Audi shop. (Touting an incredible 19 bars of pressure, which I think categorizes it as an explosive device.)

The addition of a coffee maker by Audi isn’t entirely unheard of. All the way back in 1959 Volkswagen, their parent company, released the Hertella Auto Kaffeemachine, a dash-mounted coffee maker for the Beetle. Which remains the best version of the onboard coffee maker, because one, it looks classic and cool, and two, if you’re going to do it commit to it and drill it to the dash.

But before you go rushing to purchase the new espresso machine on wheels, News 24 notes that it is being released only in India and will cost Rs 99.81 lakh (around $117,000 USD). Color options include Sakhir Gold, Waitomo Blue, Mythos Black, Glacier White, and Samurai Grey. But you have to get it in Mythos, right?

So are you Audi or outie on the whole in-car espresso maker? I know I personally don’t want 19 bars of fury sitting next to me when I’m commandeering two tons of steel, but I’m more of a pour-over guy anyway. Find a way to adhere a Chemex to the dash and let’s talk.
