Earlier this week, Jerry Seinfeld, Jason Alexander, and Larry David were spotted with a camera crew outside of Tom’s Restaurant, the famed diner on New York’s Upper West Side that served as the exterior for Monk’s Café , one of the gang’s main hangouts on the television series Seinfeld. Speculation was rampant as to what project the three were working on: was a reunion in the works? Was this the most star-studded episode yet of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee?

It has just leaked out that they were in fact shooting for a new Superbowl commercial. This info comes courtesy of Gian Franco Morini, who was on site filming for his recently completed documentary Tom’s Restaurant – A Documentary About Everything. Mr Morini provides this raw video of the scene outside the restaurant, with various members of the cast entering and leaving, all while being constantly prodded by reporters and cameras from Inside Edition.

While this isn’t quite as exciting as an epic new episode of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, it is great to see Tom’s Restaurant getting more love. The New York corner diner is one of the most classic types of American coffee shops, and for more than 40 years Tom’s Restaurant has remained an iconic center of the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Manhattan. The diner was first immortalized by Suzanne Vega in her hit 1987 song “Tom’s Diner”, and over the years has played host to a wide cast of characters, including philosopher Cornel West, many Columbia University professors, and President Barack Obama while he himself was a student at Columbia.

Mr. Morini says the documentary has just finished filming and will be launching later this year. For now, you can check out a trailer for the doc below, and find more information at their website here.
