Elsewhere on the show we talk Sprudge Twenty, the annual leadership initiative honoring excellence and individual achievement in specialty coffee industry, presented in partnership with Pacific Barista Series. Nominations are open now!

And for this month’s interview, we sit down with James Hansen, an editor at Eater London and the creator of In Digestion, a fine new food newsletter. Hansen is a former barista, and today in addition to a raft of food and bar writing for Eater and other publication, he helps steer the site’s regular updates on London’s coffee scene. In this interview we talk about lockdown tiers (bad but necessary), TikTok Stars (not a thing yet in London but coming soon surely), and how the pandemic has created challenges—and opportunities—for cafe operators not just in London, but across the United Kingdom.

Drinking Notes

On this month’s show we drank a really lovely coffee! It’s a Getchusomegear + Black and White Coffee Roasters + Caravela Coffee collaboration 2018 Cup of Excellence Winning Lot #16 from Amparo Pajoy Trujillo in Huila, Colombia. Thanks so much to our partners at Getchusomegear for sending along a bag.
