The Virmax Cupping Extravaganza
The Virmax Cupping Extravaganza is going on right now at the beautiful Hacienda El Roble, near Bucamaranga, Colombia. Over 70 coffee varietals grow in a unique coffee garden here at the farm and we’ll be on the ground cupping thirty-one different coffee varietals, sipping aguardiente, and riding horseback with twenty roasters from around the world. The 2011 World Barista Championship
The 2011 WBC in Bogota is happening this week! You can follow along at home via Livestream, geeks will be blogging about it unofficially, and we’ll be there live from Bogota, in the broadcaster’s booth interviewing the creme de la crema of the World Barista Championship.
Last but certainly not least, the 2011 Colombia Cup of Excellence auction is happening May 31st, after being pushed back from May 9th. COE organizers have put together a slideshow featuring geographical statistics of the last nine years of the Colombia program. Over 5,000 producers have participated. Over the years, 10-12 states have been represented with a majority coming from Huila and Cauca. In 2011, that number jumped to 17. Andrew Miller wrote about the program this year and put together a video of different slurping techniques in Colombia.
