It would appear that Our Embarrassing President is at it again. After an unsuccessful attempt to ban citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the country, the worldโs least favorite Donaldโnot Glover, Duck, or even Sterling, but rather, the one who apparently doesnโt know the difference between people of Irish and Nigerian descentโis trying to as another unconstitutional immigrant ban enacted.
We at Sprudge have made it pretty clear we wholeheartedly disagree with the ban. If you donโt, thatโs fineโI donโt get to decide what everyone thinks. If I did, my art-prog band would have been the most successful musical act in history. But they arenโt.ย Meanwhile, other coffee folks seem to agree and have set up some pretty cool events to help those in their local community most affected by the potential ban.
One such event is going down this Sunday at the 6th Street Market in Tempe, Arizona. Modbar is teaming up with Michelle Johnsonโcreator of The Chocolate Barista blog and 2016 Sprudgie Award winner for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellenceโand a handful of other Phoenix baristas to serve coffee in support of the Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest. A weekly market for local artists to sell their wares, the 6th Street Market will be home to Modbarโs mobile espresso cart this weekend, serving coffee provided by Augieโs Coffee Roasters and Presta Coffee Roasters.
All coffee will be free, but the pop-up will be accepting donations that will go directly to the Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest, particularly for their refugee resettlement program. Based in Tempe and Phoenix, the Lutheran Social Services have been โaiding refugee families and individuals transition into life in Arizona through courses in business development, women’s empowerment initiatives, housing, and teaching English for over thirty years,โ according to a statement about the event. The organization will be on-hand at the event to answer any questions.
And if youโre hungry, local food truck Emersonโs Fry Bread also be in attendance and will be donating a portion of their sales to the Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest.
