UPDATE: Gorilla Back In Business Says NYT

It’s been two weeks since the all-staff walkout at Gorilla Coffee in Brooklyn, New York. The NYT is now reporting that the Brooklyn cafe / beard-and-baby gathering space is officially back in business.

For Gorilla, which has become a Park Slope fixture, it was not the usual scene — every table full, a line out the door, a frenzy of grinding and tamping and brewing behind the counter — but it was not bad for a return to business after a 16-day shutdown forced by a sudden staff walkout.

“We’re kind of just getting back to basics,” said one of the shop’s owners, Darleen Scherer, after receiving a warm welcome from customers and a cadre of new workers. “I said to everybody, ‘Let’s learn about coffee and do a good job and be happy.’ ”
