The Sprudge Guide To Coffee In Barcelona For 2026

Barcelona needs no introduction. This iconic city on Spain’s Mediterranean coast is known around the world for its architecture, beaches, and vibrant food culture, and endless explorability. There is something like a perfected way of life here, one that revolves around eating and drinking in a fundamental way.  In order to escape the heat (and have a siesta during the hottest hours of the day), lunch tends to be later in the afternoon and even stretches into late evening.  Sunlight is everywhere, so it’s no wonder that there exists a huge number of cafes along the sun-drenched sidewalks. Dinners start late. No one seems to rush. For a certain type of person, this is a version of heaven.

Like much of Spain—frankly, most of Europe outside of Italy and Scandinavia—the actual quality of coffee being drunk in the those cafes was somewhat secondary to the almighty vibe of it all. A quick cortado at the bar was the norm: familiar, comforting, and very severely roasted. The whole affair was defined more by speed than craft.

But as Barcelona has enjoyed “It Girl” status over the last decade, and welcomed throngs of international visitors, wandering bohemian nomad types, and an ever-expanding number of expat residents, the city’s coffee scene has been utterly transformed. A new wave of specialty cafes and local roasters has emerged across the city, bringing with them lighter roasts, single-origin coffees, and a focus on transparency, technique, and flavor.

Today Barcelona’s coffee scene combines a global coffee vibe paired with its typical Spanish relaxed rhythm. There’s quality here, yes—in fact, some of the best roasters and coffee bars in Europe call this city home. It’s just that they all seem to do it without breaking a sweat, or raising their pulse. That’s Barcelona for you.

Ugot Bruncherie

Let’s start with brunch. Ugot Bruncherie is a brilliant place for food and coffee in Barcelona, with a loyal following and inventive menu. Coffee here is given serious attention, roasted by Familia Osorio Coffee, winners of the 2025 Spanish Roasting Championship. Don’t be surprised to see a queue—thankfully, you usually don’t have to wait as long as it might seem. If you’re short on time, plan your visit on a weekday when it’s quieter. The brunch offerings have a playful twist on classic favorites and everything is prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients. And if you still have room after your main course (you really should), make sure to order one of their irresistible cakes. The tiramisu cake, in particular, has become something of a legend among regulars—creamy, rich, and a perfect match to your flat white. Each cup of coffee at Ugot is prepared in thrift-shop inspired cups, with latte art that feels almost too lovely to sip.

Nomad Coffee Bar

Nomad Coffee Bar (formerly Nomad Coffee Lab) might be the most famous place for specialty coffee all over Spain. This beloved spot for coffee nerds delivers one of Barcelona’s most refined and focused coffee experiences. Tucked down a charming alley in the Born district, it’s a purist’s dream: the interior is held minimalistic and the green walls match the lush green plants outside the entrance. Nomad’s ethos extends beyond just the drinks here, and as one of Barcelona’s most established roasters, they’ve been supplying coffee to cafes across the country and even beyond for years. Go to Granada, Bilbao, or Santiago de Compostela and be sure to find a tiny cafe that serves coffee from Nomad.

Staff are happy to guide you through the range of origins and brewing methods, making it a great stop whether you’re a seasoned coffee drinker or curious newcomer. If it’s packed (and it often is), you can go to Petit Nomad, a cozy Italian-inspired espresso bar, or Nomad Frutas Selectas, Nomad’s spacious Poblenou cafe and roastery with pastries and more relaxed seating as an alternative.

Nomad Coffee Bar has multiple locations in Barcelona. Visit their official website and follow them on Instagram.

Morrow Coffee

Modern cafe and micro-roastery Morrow Coffee is located near Plaça d’Espanya. From the moment you step inside, the scent of freshly roasted coffee welcomes you; Morrow roasts on-site at this cafe, and you can often see the process happening as you order. Whether you prefer a syrupy, fruity espresso, a delicate pour-over (V60 or Chemex), or a refreshing cold brew, the baristas have you covered. They also have artisanal pastries (their moist banana bread is a must try), hearty avocado toasts, and brunch-friendly bites that pair beautifully with your drink of choice.

Morrow’s minimalist, light-filled space and if you’re lucky, you might catch a seat outside on the little wooden bench, perfect to soak up some morning sun. Friendly, knowledgeable staff are always happy to guide your tasting or suggest beans to take home, so don’t be shy to ask questions. On weekends it might get busy, so expect to queue—however, if you are in search of a light-filled working space, afternoons on weekdays are often more quiet at Morrow.

SlowMov

Tucked away in a quieter part of Gràcia, SlowMov feels like a cozy hideaway where the pace is a little slower than on the busy streets nearby. If you can, sit by the little bar with the turquoise shutters and brick walls (perfect to escape the heat), and you almost feel like you’ve escaped for a relaxed weekend in the countryside rather than being in the middle of Barcelona. That inviting vibe makes SlowMov perfect for settling in with a book, catching up with a friend over a long chat, or simply watching the city of Barcelona go by from outside.

Baristas here are genuinely happy to chat about the coffees: they might suggest you to try a winey-bright espresso paired with milk, and then a fruity one on its own. Afterward you’d discuss about the pros and cons of each one and maybe have a lemon cake on top. If you’re already too caffeinated to try a filter coffee, grab one of their lemon-yellow coffee bags, ask the barista for advice about home brewing and enjoy some SlowMov at home.

SlowMov is located at Carrer de Neptú, 36, Gràcia, 08006 Barcelona. Visit their official website and follow them on Instagram.

Three Marks Coffee

In the Fort Pienc neighborhood, there’s a cafe that feels like a beloved local secret even though its roastery has established a name on the (international) map for coffee lovers. The name might make you smile (it comes from the three founders all named Marc/Marco), but what really sticks with you is the way this place treats coffee like something worth savoring, studying and sharing.

The space, as many other cafes in Barcelona, has a simple, sun-soaked interior that feels both industrial and cozy. This is another good spot to claim a table outside to watch Barcelona’s rhythm unfold and do some people-watching while coffee-sipping. Black coffee or espresso are fine here—Three Marks is a well-regarded roaster, and can be found at cafes across Europe—but if you’re a sweet tooth, don’t miss out on trying their affogato which is made with (hazelnut) ice cream from DelaCrem, one of the best gelaterias among the city.

Three Marks Coffee is located at Carrer d’Ausiàs Marc, 151, Eixample, 08013 Barcelona. Visit their official website and follow them on Instagram.

Candela Canela

In the heart of Gràcia you’ll find Candela Canela, a cafe-bakery that feels like a flavor discovery every time you walk through the door. With coffees from Barcelona’s own Harmony Roasters and sweet rolls that steal the show, this is an ideal true combination of bakery and coffee bar.

The handmade buns are the perfect complement to a creamy cappuccino—and if the zingy lemon, dulce de Lotus or cinnamon roll isn’t enough for you, make it even sweeter and taste their single origin hot chocolate. If you’re not so much on the sweet side, Candela Canela is still worth visiting for the occasional coffee-related events they organize, like “Guest Barista,” where a barista is invited to brew competition coffees for three euros. Locals often order their sweets to go and enjoy it on a bench outside or bring them home to their loved ones as the space is quite small—but still, sitting behind sunlit the window is heavenly!

Candela Canela is located at Carrer del Torrent de l’Olla, 115, Local 2, Gràcia, 08012 Barcelona. Visit their official website and follow them on Instagram.

Orval Studio

A little bit off the beaten track in Barcelona’s Sant Martí neighborhood, Orval Studio is a hybrid cafe and creative hangout. Step inside and you’re welcomed by lush green plants, vinyl records, and minimalistic furniture. This place is frequented by many young artists, so even if you don’t have your book or laptop with you, there is always something to see like other customers drawing and sketching.  The atmosphere is relaxed and if you’re sitting outside in the sun, you can’t help but slow down.

Not only is the latte art impressive, but they also serve mouth-watering cardamom rolls in the style of Copenhagen or Stockholm. If you’re more on the salty side, try the kimchi grilled sandwich which is made with local sourdough bread. There’s also a quiet upstairs corner perfect for settling in to get some work done. Orval is a bit further away from the hotspots, but it’s definitely worth a visit—combine it with a visit to Barceloneta beach and you’ve got a perfect afternoon stroll.

Orval Studio is located at Carrer de Buenaventura Muñoz, 31, Sant Martí, 08018 Barcelona. Visit their official website and follow them on Instagram.
