Rockets’ Red Glare: 4th of July Fire Damages BaristaPDX

A fireworks mishap resulted in serious damage last night at Barista 2, the Alberta Street location of Billy Wilson’s Portland multi-roaster concept cafe. There’s local news coverage available here via KGW-8 Portland, while the @BaristaPDX Twitter feed provides its own stark narrative:

“Water damage everywhere”

“I have a cascade of water running down my walls and through my light fixtures.”

“It’s like an allstate commercial here @baristapdx”

The fire, which engulfed the roof of Barista and several neighboring businesses, reached 2 Alarm status and is estimated to have caused more than $100,000 in damages. Amazingly enough, Barista 2 will likely be open for business again as soon as tomorrow, serving coffee from a cart in its courtyard. Again, from Billy’s twitter feed:

Looks like @stumptowncoffee is coming through for us. 95% sure that we’ll have a cart in the courtyard by sometime tomorrow. #family

Get updates via Barista’s Twitter feed by searching @baristapdx, and consider visiting their location at 17th and Alberta in the coming days and weeks to show your support.
