Swadesi Cafe is rolling out another signature beverage dreamed up by General Manager Anumoy Das. Das pairs Metric Coffee, Kilgus Farmstead dairy, and flavors of lemon custard for a drink they’re calling the Iced Lemon Creme Latte.
We spoke with Anumoy Das to learn more.
Is there a specific story or meaning behind the name of the drink?
Yes! It’s inspired by the classic British dessert lemon posset. We wanted to take the bright, silky flavors of this traditional lemon custard and give it our own twist in our lemon cream matcha.
What inspired the creation of this drink?
It’s inspired by the classic British dessert Lemon Posset. Our espresso is really bright and floral, so I wanted something citrusy to complement those flavors. Plus it’s summer, and citrus just feels right this time of year.
Are there any unique or locally sourced ingredients used in this drink?
Yes, our local partners Metric Coffee and Kilgus Farm Milk.
How did you work to balance the flavors and create the perfect taste profile?
I wanted to create a balance that highlighted, rather than masked, the espresso’s naturally bright, floral character. Pairing it with citrus felt like the perfect complement, adding freshness and acidity that enhances those delicate notes while creating a clean, well-rounded flavor profile.
What kind of coffee is used in this drink?
A Latin American blend medium roasted, tasting notes cherry, windflower honey.
Does this drink work as both hot and iced? Did that influence the recipe?
It really works best over ice the cold milk balances the sweetness, and since it’s citrus, I wouldn’t serve it hot.
Would you recommend any food pairings to go along with it?
Yes! It pairs well with our own pastry Gulab jamun cheesecake croissant.
What are people saying about it?
So far we got a great feedback from our customers, they love it both in our latte and matcha form and have been gaining a lot of repeat business and newcomers with this!
