NY-Based Colombian Coffee Roaster Devoción Partners With Colombia’s FNC To Support Coffee Growers After The August Earthquake

NEW YORK, NY — August 25, 2026 — Devoción, the Colombian-founded coffee roaster known for shipping green coffee from Bogotá to Brooklyn in a matter of days, has partnered with the Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia (FNC) to raise funds for coffee producers affected by the earthquake that struck Colombia earlier this month.

The 7.4-magnitude quake hit on the morning of Monday, August 10, with an epicenter near San José del Palmar in Chocó. Damage spread across the western and central regions of the country — Chocó, Buenaventura, and Cali, along with the coffee-growing hubs of Manizales and Pereira. According to figures Devoción cites from the FNC, more than 43,000 coffee growers have been affected, roughly 10,000 of them facing critical conditions. The FNC has teams conducting household-by-household damage assessments across the Eje Cafetero, and much of the country’s export traffic was halted in the days after the quake by landslides on the Cali–Buenaventura corridor.

Devoción’s own community came through it intact. In the days following the earthquake, the company checked in with employees, their families, and its producer partners, and confirmed that everyone in its immediate network is safe and largely outside the hardest-hit areas. What it found beyond that network was the reason for the partnership.

“We built this company on the idea that a coffee grower’s work should be visible all the way to the cup,” said Steven Sutton, founder of Devoción. “Right now that work is under rubble in some of the same regions we buy from every year. Our producers are safe, and we’re grateful for that, but 10,000 growers in critical condition is not a Colombian problem, it’s a global coffee problem, but moreover a human calling we hope all in there industry respond to.”

The partnership follows an initial fundraiser on Saturday, August 15, when Devoción hosted the Latin Run Club at its NoMad café at 1134 Broadway and donated 100% of the day’s proceeds to the FNC’s relief effort. The company is now working with the federation on continued fundraising, and is calling on other roasters, cafés, importers, and green buyers in the US to run their own donation days, register drives, or direct contributions to the same fund.

The FNC is accepting donations online in Colombian pesos and by credit card, via QR code through the Bre-B app, and by international bank transfer in USD, EUR, GBP, and JPY. Full details and the donation link are available on the FNC’s earthquake relief page.

About DevociónWith a roasting facility and six cafes in New York City, NY-based Colombian coffee roaster Devocion is a game changer for coffee in the U.S. as the only true Origin-to-Cup roaster serving the “freshest coffee” available in this country. By flying in their direct trade, single-source beans via Fed Ex from Bogota to NYC weekly for roasting in the brand’s flagship Williamsburg facility, Devocion goes from green-to-cup in as little as 10 days; lightyears quicker than the industry norm of 6-12 months. In addition to the unprecedented fresh factor, it stands out in the U.S.’s extremely competitive and increasingly crowded specialty coffee market because of the singularly high quality of its beans grown under the purest, most natural conditions in some of Colombia’s most isolated often dangerous areas. Due to Devoción’s exclusive relationships with nearly 1000 small farms throughout Colombia, they secure beans rarely available to any other company in the world. As a certified B-Corp, Devocion’s relationships with their farmers is paramount to the brand’s success leading the socially conscious company to pay a significant premium over fair trade prices and meaningfully reinvest in the communities from which they source their coffee.
