Detroit Coffee Week
July 22 - July 27
FreeWe are so excited to announce the upcoming Detroit Coffee Week, a week-long celebration of specialty coffee. Partnering together with Claudio Martinez from SoFlo Coffee Collective, Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters is bringing Detroit a week of coffee events!
A huge thank you to the US chapter of SCA for backing this event and helping us bring it to life to the best of our ability!
Detroit Coffee Week will take place from July 22-27th, bringing together coffee enthusiasts, local businesses, and coffee professionals to learn together and celebrate coffee in our region.
This event will feature:
Tech Classes with Black Rabbit: Our lab at DOCR will be open for learning with DoubleJ from Black Rabbit. Whether folks have never seen the inside of a machine or are seasoned coffee’s techs, everyone will have an opportunity to learn and play.
Importer Cupping: A room filled with importers and roasters sharing their coffee’s together! We look forward to seeing Yellow Rooster Coffee Imports, Artisan Coffee Imports, Cafe Imports, Ally Coffee and List & Biesler. As this has gained a lot of interest, we’ll likely open this up to a few other importers as well.
Planet Oat Latte Art Class: A latte art class focusing on how to steam oat milk well and pour with perfection. One of our founding sponsors, Planet Oat, will be supplying their milk for this to get local baristas more familiar with their products.
Latte Art Throwdown at our Detroit Café: A classic and fun way to get folks together from our city, all in a 32 person bracket.
Proper Syrup Signature Drink Competition: Creative coffee minds coming together to create a signature drink highlighting coffee they’re excited to serve. Winner will win a trip to origin and be going to Costa Rica!
Barista Field Day: Our friends at Dozer Coffee, in centrally located Ann Arbor, are opening up their massive warehouse and bar for an evening of field day games, conversation and fun!
SCA Classes: Claudio has been kind enough to offer foundational level barista classes completely free of charge. Students will only be responsible for their certification cost.
Lectures & Discussion Panels: From industry leaders to folks who are just getting their foot in the door to specialty coffee, we all have something to learn. Some topics to be discussed and panels to be had: Diversity & inclusivity in specialty coffee, women in coffee + data points, branding and marketing in specialty coffee, careers and opportunities that exist within our industry, and responsible coffee buying with importers/exporters and green buyers.
Networking: We are expecting folks from near and far — not just Detroit! Our hope is to allow for as many connections with as many different specialty coffee professionals as possible.
Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters is a specialty coffee roaster located in Ferndale, MI. We have 4 café’s and a growing partnership program brining specialty coffee and consulting to our partners around Michigan and abroad.
