The Caffè by Mr. Espresso in downtown Oakland is hosting a special canelé pop-up with Chef Phil Saneski, founder of The Canelé Co.

Chef Phil is passionate about canelés and vegetable-inspired pastry techniques. His upcycled and vegetable-inspired recipes have been featured in Bon Appetit, Travel+Leisure, and Culinology®  magazines.

“Beyond making canelés in fine-dining restaurants and bakeries where I worked, my earliest memories of canelés always revolved around having really good coffee to pair with it. I associate the highest quality coffee with the experience of eating canelés, which is why we were inspired by The Caffé to make a coffee canelé flight to highlight different roasts and coffee origins by Mr. Espresso,” said Saneski. “Additionally, we made Tiger Tea canelés that were inspired by the popular drink at The Caffé, and added sweet potatoes as our unique twist.”

The following canelé flavors will be available at The Caffè during the pop-up:

  • Mr. Espresso canelé flight box of canelés made using three Mr. Espresso coffees: Ethiopia Sulladjah Washed (light roast), Tuscan Espresso Blend (medium roast), and Organic Dark Roast Guatemala (dark roast). | $16/flight of three
  • Red Bell Pepper canelé | $5 each
  • Ube canelé | $5 each
  • Tiger Tea Sweet Potato canelé | $5 each

In addition, 10% of the total canelé proceeds will go to Oakland-based Community Kitchens, which helps provide meals for marginalized communities.
