Hey, let’s go back to Denton! We stopped by this lovely little north Texas college town earlier this summer for a visit to Triptych Coffee, a charming coffee cart in a flower shop scooting around town for mobile events. Today we’re checking out Record Supply Coffee, a lovely brick and mortar cafe in historic downtown. We love the look of this space, which shares its digs with a bike shop and two tattoo artists. That’s pretty much everything you need right there!

As told to Sprudge by Chase Record.
For those who aren’t familiar, will you tell us about your company?
We are a family owned and operated coffee bar in Denton, Texas. Chase and Justina Record are the owners and operators and have been involved in the local coffee industry for the past 11 years. We are very much Denton-centric and have opened this space for our city and its people. Hospitality and quality come before everything else. We just happen to make a pretty good cup of coffee, too!
Can you tell us a bit about the new space?
The space is located in a historic downtown building that initially served as the depot for the Denton bus line in the early 1900s. It has served as a car garage since the ’70s and has recently been bought by Kevin Marshall of Bullseye Bike Shop and restored to its current state. The space houses Bullseye, a private tattoo artist, an additional tattoo shop, and Record Coffee Supply. It has the industrial, but homey feel.
What’s your approach to coffee?
Quality, consistency, and being open to change. Our goal is to be the best at getting better every day. We don’t believe in hitting the ceiling when it comes to these values.
Any machines, coffees, special equipment lined up?
We have a beautiful new setup including a two-group La Marzocco Linea Classic S EE, Mazzer Major, FETCO 2131, and a Mahlkönig EK43. Kuma Coffee from Seattle is our main supplier for coffee. We are serving their Classic Blend on espresso and drip as well as the Bright Blend for drip. We are using the Sun Bear Blend for cold brew and will be rotating single origin pour-over options throughout the year. We are starting off with a Colombian.
How is your project considering sustainability?
Waste is naturally the biggest challenge and arguably the most surefire way to ensure sustainability practices to be successful and beneficial to the environment. We recycle all coffee grounds for our plant soil at the shop and it feeds our mint, rosemary, etc. that we plan to use for specialty drinks this summer. We also have a propagation station that is essentially a “take a plant, leave a plant” in hopes to save the plants for home plant enthusiasts. We are currently weighing our options regarding takeaway waste and how we can make the biggest impact moving forward.
What’s your hopeful target opening date/month?
We are targeting the first week of June as our grand opening. We are currently in the middle of a spur of the moment soft opening. We received our permit to operate much more quickly than we could have ever anticipated, which is a huge win!
Thank you!
Thank you for the consideration. We appreciate the opportunity!
