There’s still a little daylight left in the summer, and that means there’s still time to check out Kiosk, a seasonal cafe in Turku, Finland from Frukt Coffee Roasters. Taking residence in a 100-year-old kiosk at the city center, Kiosk is a summer-only installation specializing in Scandinavian-style light roast coffee, a perfect pairing for the blissful moderate Finland summers.
And if you aren’t able to check out Kiosk this year because [waves hand around] this, don’t worry, Frukt has plans to return for a few summers to come. Sounds like a good enough reason to spend Midsummer in Finland, no?

For those who aren’t familiar, will you tell us about your company?
Frukt Coffee Roasters (FRUKT) is a small specialty coffee company based in Turku, Finland. Started in 2018 and located in the Kakola neighborhood, previously well-known as the prison for notorious criminals and now known as a neighborhood with high-end apartments and small quality focused business such as a sourdough bakery, craft brewery, and a restaurant.
We roast in small batch on our Loring S7 Nighthawk roaster and buy small lots from small producers.
Can you tell us a bit about the new space?
This space for summer, KIOSK by Frukt, is a 1920’s small, wooden, kiosk building in downtown Turku, near the central train station. It’s one of a kind and there are but few like this in the country, let alone on that is still in use. We rent it from the city and have plans to run the KIOSK by Frukt for the next couple of years if not more.
What’s your approach to coffee?
Light roasted, clean, and bright specialty coffee.
Any machines, coffees, special equipment lined up?
We have a La Marzocco Linea Mini at the KIOSK with batch brewer from Marco and a Mahlkönig Tanzania grinder. The small but powerful Linea Mini is a dream machine for the small space as this one. A (small) work horse :)
How is your project considering sustainability?
As a take away style establishment we have take away cups that are 100% recyclable as they are completely free of plastic. Same goes for lids. We only offer organic whole milk as well as local brand of oat milk.
Are you working with craftspeople, architects, and/or creatives that you’d like to mention?
We work together with a talented designer Tomi Leppänen who’s behind our FRUKT aesthetics. Also we have a very close relationship with local sourdough bakers, bageri Å, who we get our pastry from. They are our neighbors at Kakola neighbourhood. We also have a coffee shop together in Kakola in the same space that they bake in!
