Jack Simpson of Axil Coffee Roasters in Melbourne, Australia is the 2025 World Barista Champion. Competitors from over 50 countries took the stage at HostMilan in Italy over the weekend in hopes of taking the top prize, but as the announcements came down earlier this morning, it was Simpson with the dream ending.
It has been a steady ascension for the three-time Australia Barista Champion; Simpson took third at the WBC in 2023 followed by a runner-up finish behind Mikael Jasin in 2024 to finally winning it all this year. That level of excellence would typically make one the odds-on favorite to win, except that four of his five Finalist competitors were also multi-time national champions, including Ben Put, a seven-time Canada Barista Champion and now five-time WBC Finalist. Meanwhile Jason Loo of Malaysia is a four-time champion, China’s Simon SunLei three times, and Japan Hiroki Ito has three Japan Latte Art Championships to his name. Only Christopher Sahyoun Hoff of Denmark made his first visit to the World stage.
Still, even amongst the many tenured competitors, Simpson scored nearly 20 points higher in the Finals than the Runner-Up.
This is Australia’s fourth World Barista Championship win and their second in four years, following Anthony Douglas’s—also of Axil—2022 win.
Congratulations to Jack Simpson and all the Finalists! And without further ado, here are the results of the 2025 World Barista Championship in Milan, Italy.
