The 10K distance reflects a daily reality for many women in rural Ethiopia, who walk five kilometers each way to reach healthcare services. Despite cervical cancer being almost entirely preventable, one woman dies from the disease every two minutes worldwide, largely due to lack of access to screening and early treatment.
“Women are the backbone of the coffee industry,” said Butler. “They grow, harvest, and process the coffee we depend on—yet many are walking hours just to reach basic healthcare. 10K for H.E.R. is about honoring that reality and turning solidarity into action.”
Proceeds from the walk will support Grounds for Health’s cervical cancer prevention programs in Ethiopia, which provide education, screening, and treatment in coffee-growing communities. To date, the organization has reached more than a quarter million women worldwide and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
Adding to the campaign’s impact, all donations are being matched dollar-for-dollar by Royal Coffee, doubling support for women’s health initiatives in coffee-producing regions.
What Donations Make Possible
- $65 screens one woman for cervical cancer
