Origin Coffee

Together with interior designer Sophie Chapman, the Scoresby Street location was renovated to create a sophisticated industrial aesthetic for which Origin Coffee locations are recognised for.

Housed inside a railway arch, The Southwark coffee shop has an industrial feel using dark metal and wooden shelving against a cool green colour palette. Large prints against a cool colour palette on the walls add softness as does the oak shelving and use of boucle fabrics, and lighter oak chairs and leather bench seating soften the space, with unique design features in the coffee shop space including the Mod Bar, used to brew espresso. Built into the main coffee bar, it has a stylish and clean profile created by installing the main brewing equipment below the bar itself – a contrast to the typical larger espresso machines seen in most cafés which sit entirely above the coffee bar.

Throughout the entire space, each room boasts large windows, from the QC lab which allows customers to watch Freda Yuan, Origin’s Director of Coffee, at work tasting new coffee profiles, to the education space, which hosts professional coffee training and at-home enthusiast courses. The inclusion of large windows built into every room brings light into the railway arch structure and allows customers to see what goes on behind the scenes of a busy speciality coffee business.

Origin uses industry-leading machinery and equipment not only behind the bar but throughout the space to train staff, wholesale partners and at-home enthusiasts in order to deliver best-in-class brewing. This equipment also has a beautiful aesthetic which adds to the overall feel within the space.
