Next week, the eyes of the American specialty coffee scene take focus on Boston, for the 2022 US Coffee Championships take place April 8th through 10th as part of Expo. But as the world looks on at the six competitions and countless new product rollouts at the SCA’s largest Stateside event, Go Fund Bean is looking after the Boston coffee professionals during what will be a very busy few days with their newest initiative Feeding Boston, where they will be providing free meals to local coffee professionals.
Working at a cafe in the host city for major coffee events is hectic. There’s an influx of thousands of coffee drinkers, most of whom will be caffeine crawling to some extent to see the best of what the town has to offer. For the local coffee workers, this means long hours, and once you’re off work, there is Expo and all its satellite events for one to attend, leaving little to no time for self-care.
With Feeding Boston, Go Fund Bean is looking to provide a little relief. Open to Boston-based coffee workers, the coffee non-profit is offering three free meals for up to 50 baristas. Thanks to a donation from Oatly, meals for Feeding Boston will be provided by Avellino’s and Noon Mediterranean, with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options available.
In a press release Go Fund Bean Director of Marketing Valorie Clark states:
Any time a major coffee event descends on a city, it means a ton of work for the local coffee community. It’s exciting, but it can be overwhelming and exhausting. We wanted to find a way to take something off baristas’ plates during Expo. The last thing anyone wants to do after a rough shift is cook, so we decided providing delicious prepared meals would be the best way we can support the Boston coffee community.
Meal pick-up will coincide with a GFB-hosted get-together for the Boston coffee community at the Washington Street George Howell location on Wednesday, April 6th. Taking place between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm, coffee workers are invited to come hang out and reconnect, grab a non-alcoholic beverage provided by Torani, and have a chance to win a raffle prize or two from Fellow Products. All meal recipients will automatically receive five tickets, and additional tickets can be purchased one for $5 or five for $20, with the proceeds going to continue GFB’s “mission to support, uplift, and defend hourly coffee workers.”
