Pilot 15th Anniversary Bernardina Release
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Pilot Coffee Roasters, we created a special limited-edition package for Bernardina, launched during this significant milestone in our brand’s history.
Bernardina’s story is a true coffee treasure. In 2013, a peculiar tree was discovered on Finca Los Bellotos in El Salvador. As the Pacas family harvested its first crop, an intense fruit aroma filled the air, signaling that something extraordinary had been found. This newly documented variety was named “Bernardina” to honor the farm manager, Ruberto Bernardino Merche, who made this remarkable discovery.
To convey the exclusivity and special nature of this coffee, we drew inspiration from caviar tins for the packaging. Our goal was to communicate the same level of care and attention that goes into caviar, emphasizing Bernardina’s rarity and uniqueness.
We collaborated with renowned illustrator Joel Malkin, who hand-drew the coffee bean plant, adding a touch of artistry that highlights the natural origins of this extraordinary coffee.
The packaging features metallic foil accents, embossing on the leaves and product title, and was housed in a box with similar embellishments, all reflecting the coffee’s rich history.
Though this limited-edition coffee was available for only a short time, it left a lasting impact on our audience.
