Late this Thursday afternoon, as news reports swirled portended the fate of a nervous nation, an avid Sprudge reader reached out to us with a simple question.

“Have you seen ads for Colon Broom?”

No, we've never before seen ads for Colon Broom.

“It’s a supplement being advertised on various social media streams to fix your gut and help you lose weight, with clean millennial advertising to match the prices,” they told us. While we occasionally write about how coffee interacts with colorectal health we didn't yet see the connection. Why was this reader was telling us about Colon Broom?

“Only after you take a quiz and give them your e-mail address can you see the ingredients,” they explained, “it’s just psyllium! But that’s not the worst part.”

They then sent us this screencap from the website.

A message from Colon Broom from Head of Nutrition John Peterson, who looks a lot like World Barista Champion Dale Harris.

We wrote back in shock. “That looks just like Dale Harris!”

“It is 2017 World Barista Champion Dale Harris,” the source replied. “Look, he’s even wearing a Has Bean shirt.”

After doing an extensive reverse Google image search, we discovered the origin of the Dale Harris portrait, from the website Capsule:

What we're left with now is a lot of questions and not a lot of answers. Is Dale Harris actually the Colon Broom nutritionist John Peterson? Is John Peterson actually the 2017 World Barista Champion? Can I really lose 40lbs using this fiber supplement by December? We have sent requests for comments to all parties in this saga and will update this story as soon as we find out more.

This story is developing…

UPDATE 1 2:30 PM PST

Sprudge Media Network has obtained an exclusive quote regarding this matter from 2017 World Barista Champion Dale Harris of HasBean, whom we asked about his status as a member of the ColonBroom team vis-a-vis any tips he may have for us on colorectal health:

“Uhm, this is a surprise. I guess I should be flattered any one would use a picture of me on their website!

Happy to share personal tips on diet and health with Sprudge fans but I would want included that I am neither a medical professional nor particularly healthy. I do like freshly baked cheesecake, but suggest they are enjoyed in moderation as part of a balanced diet.

I am not affiliated in any way with ColonBroom, and don’t believe I’ve met Mr Peterson, but I will be getting in touch with them soon. I do quite like the team at Capsule though! Also, it's a great photo, credit to the awesome Al Higgins.” — Dale Harris
