The Sey House Brings Hands-On Brewing To World Of Coffee San Diego

One thing about World of Coffee née Expo is that it’s hands-on but not really hands-on. You can touch the hottest new gear but you don’t exactly get to use it in any real way. Like sure, maybe you can see how a new grinder works or even have someone pull a shot for you on that fancy espresso machine, but did you get to do it? Not exactly.

For those World of Coffee-goers looking to truly get their hands dirty, there’s Sey House. Hosted by Brooklyn’s Sey Coffee, Sey House is a chance to attendees to brew a little coffee of their own using some of the best equipment on the market.

Taking place April 9th through 12th just a half-mile walk from the San Diego Convention Center, Sey House is a collaborative effort with Hyunah Coffee Club, a Brooklyn membership-based coffeemaking studio created for the home user. It will be hosted by the Sey’s recently named Director of Research & Education, YouTube personality and Sprudgie Award winner Lance Hedrick.

Completely free and open to all, the Sey House is an opportunity for individuals to choose from “over a dozen exceptional lots” of coffee from renowned producers like Pepe and Jose Jijón of Finca Soledad, Tamiru Tadesse Tesema of Alo Village, Estela Pitti of Los Cenizos, and David Pohl of Finca Sophia, and use “a playground of the industry’s best brewers, grinders, and espresso machines” to make their own cup. Expect equipment from brands like La Marzocco, Decent, Weber, Flair, Fellow, Orea, Lotus, Bookoo, and others.

Of course you don’t have to brew your own coffee. Sey House will include a host of guest brewers who can make you something nice. Featured guests announced thus far include Brian Quan, San Francisco-based pop-up tasting experience Komakase, Rohith Ram of NYC Nordic-focused cocktail bar and coffee shop Kabin, and the team behind Peru’s award-winning coffee shop and roaster Three Monkeys. Additional programming throughout the weekend features sessions by Bean Voyage and Raise the Bar Coffee.

The Sey House is located at 1037 J Street, San Diego, CA 92101. It takes place April 9th through 12th and is open from 8:00am to 5:00pm (except April 9th where the opening time is 10:00am) and is completely free to attend. A reservations is required and can be made by emailing house@sey.coffee.
