Portland, Ore., United States— Sustainable Harvest, a specialty-coffee importing company and B Corporation that aims to improve the livelihoods of coffee-farming families around the world, is celebrating its 25th year of business in 2022. The company will be marking its history and continued achievements with several events at the Specialty Coffee Expo in Boston next month.
Sustainable Harvest was founded in 1997 to bring more transparency and equity to the coffee supply chain. The company achieves this through its Relationship Coffee model, an innovative sourcing approach that creates transparent relationships that increase value throughout the supply chain while fostering greater sustainability. The company continues to leverage this model as a leading importer of coffees certified Fair Trade and Organic.
Sustainable Harvest’s goals align with those of the B Corporation community, which prioritizes using business as a force for good. Sustainable Harvest became a B Corp in 2008—the first coffee importer to earn the certification—and its B Corp status is reviewed every three years through an extensive impact assessment. In the most recent review in 2021, Sustainable Harvest earned its highest B Impact score ever. On a scale of 50 to 200—where 50 can be thought of as a traditional business model and 80 as the required minimum to earn B Corp certification—Sustainable Harvest scored 151.4 in the 2021 assessment, placing it among the highest-scoring B Corporations across all industries.
“Since the start of Sustainable Harvest, we’ve been firm in our commitment to a better, more equitable coffee supply chain, and achieving that through a model built on transparent relationships,” says David Griswold, Sustainable Harvest’s founder and CEO. “I’m proud of our sustained efforts in reaching the 25-year milestone, but I’m especially heartened that our impact is as meaningful as it’s ever been, as seen by our recent B Corp score. The B Corp Model pushes us to be even better in carrying out our model, through its impact assessment.”
Celebrating in Boston
At the upcoming Specialty Coffee Expo, taking place April 8-10 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, Sustainable Harvest will be exhibiting at booth 536, serving Relationship Coffees brewed by some of the roasters who purchase and roast these coffees with care, with many of the smallholders producers who grew them in attendance.
In addition to welcoming Expo attendees to visit booth 536, Sustainable Harvest invites the industry to attend its ice cream social on Saturday, April 9, from 3 to 4 p.m. in room 153A of the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
